Melissa Talleda is a movement artist and educator residing in Chicago, IL. She began her movement career outside of Philadelphia, and soon moved to Baltimore to study at Goucher College. While at Goucher, Melissa studied Modern Dance, Ballet, and Pilates extensively while pursuing degrees in both Dance and Pscyhology. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors in both Dance and Psychology.
After College, Melissa began her professional career. She worked with many notable companies throughout the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area such as ClancyWorks Dance Company, VT Dance, Next Reflex Dance Collective, Jane Franklin Dance, and The Collective. Melissa is a founding member of the award winning Baltimore based company The Effervescent Collective.
While in Baltimore, Melissa began creating her own work with Shmib Dance. Her choreography has been performed along the east coast in performance arenas such as Joria Productions, in Manhattan, Black Rock center for the Arts in DC, Theatre Project in Baltimore, The Creative Alliance in Baltimore, and The CEC in Philadelphia. Her work has been chosen for various festivals such as YES! Virginia Dance, and as the invited Guest Artist for Columbia College’s Alumni Show. Shmib is now based out of Chicago and continues to engage audiences.
In 2012, Melissa moved to Chicago to attain her Graduate Certification in Movement Analysis from Columbia College, and began performing with Gorilla Tango Theatre, and Chicago Danztheatre ensemble. In 2013, Melissa worked with a group of dedicated and talented movers to help create Modet Dance Collective, and has collaborated on Choreography to be presented as part of Links Hall’s event: THAW!
Melissa currently works as the Director of Movement Arts at Lincoln Park-based Green Bean Day School where she runs rehearsals and classes for young students and adults in their newly renovated movement studio.
